About the position

The Architectural Metal Design Drafter will be responsible for producing accurate designs, working drawings, and shop drawings using computer-aided drafting (CAD) equipment. This role involves analyzing building codes and technical documents to inform architectural designs, as well as collaborating with various disciplines to ensure the integrity of the designs. The position requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of structural, electrical, and mechanical design concepts, particularly in the luxury residential market.

Responsibilities

  • Operate computer-aided drafting (CAD) equipment to produce designs, working drawings, and shop drawings accurately.
  • Analyze building codes, by-laws, space and site requirements, and other technical documents to determine their effect on architectural designs.
  • Understand structural, electrical, and mechanical design concepts and analyze their technical implications on architectural designs.
  • Draw rough and detailed scale plans for foundations, buildings, and structures based on preliminary concepts and sketches.
  • Lay out plane interior room arrangements for projects using CAD.
  • Create and revise drawings as required using established standards.
  • Obtain and assemble data to complete architectural designs.
  • Research dimensions and materials to be installed per plans and specifications.
  • Determine procedures and instructions to be followed according to design specifications and quantity of materials.
  • Prepare quality take-offs, bidding documents, and technical reports for specific projects.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in architectural drafting or related field.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD (Required).
  • Knowledge of structural issues, architectural design, electrical, mechanical, and low voltage work relative to the luxury residential market preferred.
  • Experience working with external reference files (Xrefs).
  • Knowledge in artistic/architectural metalworks.
  • Experience with dimensioning and noting.
  • Experience with block usage.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the luxury residential market.
  • Familiarity with building codes and regulations.
