About the position
The Area 15 Coordinator serves as a liaison between the NC Division of Emergency Management and the counties within Area 15, focusing on enhancing local emergency management capabilities. This role involves evaluating local programs, identifying weaknesses in disaster management, and assisting local governments in strengthening their emergency response and recovery efforts. The position requires a proactive approach to emergency situations and involves on-call duties for disaster response.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate local government Emergency Management programs.
- Identify weaknesses related to disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
- Assist local governments in developing capabilities to address and strengthen identified areas of weakness.
- Serve in a primary response capacity for the Division, responding to emergencies and disaster situations in the assigned area or statewide.
- Work from a home office with limited supervisory oversight.
- Be dispatched to serve as a responder to affected counties or on response missions to other states.
- Be on-call for emergency/disaster response on a 24-hour basis.
Requirements
- Experience in emergency management or a related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to evaluate and improve emergency management programs.
- Capacity to work independently and manage time effectively.
