About the position

The Area Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the accounting functions and personnel of a designated area of hotels, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role involves a variety of essential job functions, including interviewing, selecting, training, and supporting associates to ensure they perform in accordance with established brand or hotel standards and HHM core values. The Area Accounting Manager will plan and organize the work of the hotel accounting team, adjusting priorities as needed to meet reporting deadlines. Additionally, the manager will monitor the activities of Accounting Managers within the designated area or group of hotels, ensuring that all ledger account reconciliations, including guest ledger, city ledger, and advance deposits, are reviewed thoroughly. The position also requires conducting preliminary reviews of forecasts and budgets as required, overseeing internal audit standards, and reviewing invoices for goods and services. The Area Accounting Manager will provide financial analysis of contracts and legal agreements, assist hotel management in maintaining licenses, permits, insurance, and contracts, and coordinate the review of monthly financial statements for accuracy. Furthermore, the manager will provide research, analysis, and insight into financial trends, statistical ratios, variance, budgeting, and forecasting. Other responsibilities include administering house banks, conducting audits, coordinating with the corporate accounting department to monitor payroll, and ensuring compliance with state and federal tax returns. The role may also involve assisting with human resources needs when requested by management and following sustainability guidelines related to HHM's EarthView program.

Responsibilities

  • Interview, select, train, schedule, coach and support associates, ensuring they perform in accordance with established brand or hotel standards and consistent with HHM core values.
  • Plan and organize the work of the hotel accounting team, adjusting priorities as needed to ensure reporting deadlines are met.
  • Monitor Accounting Managers activities within designated area/group of hotels.
  • Review all ledger account reconciliations to include: guest ledger, city ledger, advance deposits.
  • Conduct preliminary review of forecasts and budgets as required (annual, revised annual, monthly, and/or on Hersha Hospitality/owner's request).
  • Oversee and ensure internal audit standards are met.
  • Review invoices for goods and services and sign disbursement checks.
  • Monitor coding of cash receipts.
  • Provide financial analysis of contracts and legal agreements, and assist hotel management in maintaining licenses, permits, insurance and contracts.
  • Coordinate and review monthly financial statements for accuracy.
  • Provide research, analysis and insight into financial trends, statistical ratios, variance, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Administers house banks and conduct audits.
  • Coordinate with corporate accounting department to monitor payroll.
  • Monitor records of inventory to control accuracy of supply distribution.
  • Review tax returns to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Prepare annual depreciation schedules for furniture and equipment.
  • Assist with human resources needs when requested by management.
  • Follow sustainability guidelines and practices related to HHMs EarthView program.
  • Practice safe work habits, wear protective safety equipment and follow MSDS and OSHA standards.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in accounting or related field preferred.
  • Previous accounting experience in the hospitality industry preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including advanced skills in Excel.
