About the position

The Area Buyer position at US Foods, Inc. is a hybrid role based in Fife, WA, combining onsite and virtual work. This role is responsible for managing inventory replenishment, monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), and executing purchase orders to ensure efficient supply chain operations. The Area Buyer collaborates with various teams to optimize inventory levels, minimize spoilage, and enhance overall company performance while maintaining strong supplier relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Drive daily replenishment duties and KPI monitoring.
  • Deliver on KPIs for desk-specific goals such as Service Level and Days-Inventory-On-Hand.
  • Analyze economic order quantities and create efficient purchase orders with suppliers.
  • Execute forward-buy opportunities to achieve profitability based on targeted goals.
  • Monitor projected out of stock reports and make purchasing decisions accordingly.
  • Establish communication with internal partners regarding supplier production delays.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to reduce overstock and initiate product returns.
  • Utilize understanding of product shelf life to prevent spoilage.
  • Communicate seasonal trends to drive profitability with accurate costs.
  • Coordinate with product/category management to maintain supplier relationships.
  • Cooperate with Logistics and Replenishment teams to achieve freight consolidation.
  • Evaluate inbound volume to collaborate with warehouse operations on receiving practices.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the buying team.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of direct inventory management/supply chain experience required.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to function in Microsoft Excel.
  • General understanding of logistics and distribution models.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations and meet timelines.
  • Four-year degree is highly preferred, with equivalent work experience considered.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum 3 years purchasing experience preferred, with food service experience a plus.
  • SCPO experience heavily preferred.
