About the position

The Area Chief of Staff at Banfield Pet Hospital is a leadership role responsible for overseeing multiple veterinary locations in Albuquerque. This position focuses on developing and managing associate veterinarians to ensure high-quality care and performance standards are met. The Area Chief of Staff drives a culture of quality and safety, ensuring that every pet receives consistent care aligned with Banfield's six domains of quality. This role also involves collaboration with practice managers and other stakeholders to enhance veterinary services and support the growth of the veterinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and manage associate veterinarians across three hospital locations.
  • Drive a culture of quality and safety at the hospital level to optimize medical care and client experience.
  • Perform regular hospital visits and quality audits to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Develop and coach associate veterinarians on necessary skills for delivering high-quality medical care.
  • Partner with the Director of Veterinary Quality to recruit and onboard new veterinarians.
  • Deliver on veterinary quality KPIs to support hospital performance expectations.
  • Identify and develop future veterinary talent for leadership roles.
  • Support engagement and retention efforts for veterinarians and certified veterinary technicians.
  • Manage medical equipment inventory and functionality in assigned hospitals.
  • Participate in local, state, and national veterinary organizations to promote Banfield's brand.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required.
  • Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure with the applicable state veterinary board.
  • 3 years experience in small animal medicine and surgery practice.
  • Proven ability to perform all basic surgeries and use standard medical instruments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in multi-unit hospital leadership roles.
  • Familiarity with veterinary quality KPIs and performance metrics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate problems into practical solutions.
