About the position

The Area Chief of Staff is responsible for leading, developing, and managing associate veterinarians in their hospitals to ensure high-quality veterinary care and optimal hospital performance. This role emphasizes the importance of a culture of quality and safety, ensuring that every pet receives consistent care aligned with Banfield's six domains of quality. The Area Chief of Staff collaborates with Practice Managers and other stakeholders to drive engagement, retention, and the professional development of veterinary staff.

Responsibilities

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
  • Serve as a champion for quality by communicating, demonstrating and driving a culture of quality and safety at the hospital level.
  • Perform regular hospital visits and quality audits to ensure compliance with industry and Banfield quality standards.
  • Develop, coach, and manage associate veterinarians on the skills needed to deliver high-quality medical care.
  • Drive a successful doctor team through recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new veterinarians.
  • Develop associate and lead veterinarians to coach new hires and deliver exceptional onboarding experiences.
  • Deliver on veterinary quality KPIs to support hospital performance expectations.
  • Perform clinical skill and leadership competency development of associate and lead veterinarians.
  • Identify and develop future veterinary talent for leadership roles within the practice.
  • Drive doctor engagement and retention efforts to reduce turnover risk.
  • Manage medical equipment inventory and functionality in assigned hospitals.
  • Partner with the Practice Manager to manage medical equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Participate in local, state, and national veterinary organizations to promote Banfield's brand reputation.
  • Ensure hospital operations meet all regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required.
  • Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure with the applicable state veterinary board.
  • 3 years experience in small animal medicine and surgery practice.
