About the position

The Area Chief of Staff at Banfield Pet Hospital plays a crucial role in leading, developing, and managing associate veterinarians across multiple hospitals. This position is essential for ensuring that Banfield can attract, develop, engage, and retain veterinary professionals who are committed to delivering high-quality care and meeting the hospital's performance measures. The Area Chief of Staff is responsible for fostering a culture of quality care, which aligns with Banfield's six domains of quality: safe, effective, patient/client-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care. This role involves close collaboration with the Practice Manager to ensure that every pet receives consistent and high-quality care. In this position, the Area Chief of Staff will conduct regular hospital visits and quality audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and Banfield's quality benchmarks. They will also be responsible for developing and coaching associate veterinarians, helping them acquire the necessary technical and functional skills to excel in their roles. The Area Chief of Staff will work alongside the Director of Veterinary Quality to recruit and onboard new veterinarians, ensuring a smooth transition and integration into the team. Additionally, they will focus on driving veterinary quality KPIs and supporting the engagement and retention of both veterinarians and certified veterinary technicians. The Area Chief of Staff will also manage medical equipment inventory and functionality, ensuring that all equipment meets the required standards. They will actively participate in veterinary organizations to promote Banfield's brand and reputation while ensuring that hospital operations comply with all local, state, and federal regulations. Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and manage associate veterinarians in assigned hospitals.
  • Drive a culture of quality and safety at the hospital level.
  • Perform regular hospital visits and quality audits for compliance.
  • Develop and coach associate veterinarians on necessary skills.
  • Partner with the Director of Veterinary Quality to recruit and onboard new veterinarians.
  • Deliver on veterinary quality KPIs to support hospital performance.
  • Manage medical equipment inventory and functionality in hospitals.
  • Participate in local, state, and national veterinary organizations.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required.
  • Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in small animal medicine and surgery practice.
  • Proven ability to perform all basic surgeries and use standard medical instruments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate problems into practical solutions.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in leadership roles within veterinary practices.
  • Familiarity with veterinary quality KPIs and performance metrics.
  • Previous involvement in veterinary organizations or associations.
