About the position

The Area Chief of Staff at Banfield Pet Hospital plays a crucial role in leading, developing, and managing associate veterinarians within their assigned hospitals. The Area Chief of Staff is responsible for fostering a culture of quality care among the veterinary provider team, which includes Doctors of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT), and Veterinary Assistants (VA). This role emphasizes the importance of consistent care that aligns with Banfield's six domains of quality: safe, effective, patient/client-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care. In this position, the Area Chief of Staff collaborates closely with the Practice Manager to drive the culture and delivery of quality care. Regular hospital visits and quality audits are performed to ensure compliance with industry standards and to enhance associate veterinarian engagement. The Area Chief of Staff is tasked with developing, coaching, and managing associate veterinarians, equipping them with the necessary technical and functional skills to succeed in their roles. This includes delivering outstanding medical care that meets the hospital's performance expectations. Additionally, the Area Chief of Staff works in partnership with the Director of Veterinary Quality to recruit and onboard new veterinarians, ensuring they receive exceptional mentorship and training. The role also involves driving veterinary quality KPIs, supporting doctor engagement and retention efforts, and managing medical equipment inventory and functionality in the hospitals. Active participation in local, state, and national veterinary organizations is encouraged to promote Banfield's brand reputation and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. Overall, the Area Chief of Staff is a pivotal figure in maintaining high standards of veterinary care and fostering a supportive work environment for all associates.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and manage associate veterinarians in assigned hospitals.
  • Drive a culture of quality and safety at the hospital level.
  • Perform regular hospital visits and quality audits to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Develop, coach, and manage associate veterinarians on necessary skills for success.
  • Partner with the Director of Veterinary Quality to recruit and onboard new veterinarians.
  • Deliver on veterinary quality KPIs to support hospital performance expectations.
  • Identify and develop future veterinary talent for leadership roles.
  • Support engagement and retention of certified veterinary technicians.
  • Manage medical equipment inventory and functionality in assigned hospitals.
  • Participate in veterinary organizations to promote Banfield's brand reputation.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required.
  • Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure with the applicable state veterinary board.
  • 3 years experience in small animal medicine and surgery practice.
  • Proven ability to perform all basic surgeries and use standard medical instruments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate problems into practical solutions.
