About the position

The Area Director I at Young Life is a pivotal role that requires a blend of spiritual leadership and effective management to oversee the operations of several departments dedicated to mission services. This position is fundamentally about leading a team to fulfill Young Life's mission of introducing kids to Jesus Christ and nurturing their spiritual growth. The Area Director will be responsible for fostering a vibrant spiritual life within the community, ensuring that all ministry activities are conducted with a strong reliance on prayer and personal relationships with Jesus Christ. In this role, the Area Director will engage in various ministry functions, including spiritual development, leadership development, resource development, direct ministry, and ministry support. The director will develop a yearly personal growth plan that emphasizes spiritual disciplines such as prayer, reflection, and active participation in a church community. They will also lead teams and individuals in spiritual development, ensuring that the ministry is designed and executed with a focus on prayer and spiritual growth. Leadership development is another critical aspect of this role. The Area Director will partner with the Regional Director and Committee to cast a vision for reaching every kid in the area. This includes recruiting and training new staff and leaders, supervising area staff, and providing resources necessary for implementing the ministry vision. The director will also be responsible for developing and leading fundraising strategies to support the ministry, ensuring that the area remains financially viable and capable of impacting the youth positively. The Area Director will actively engage in direct ministry activities, including contact work, leading Young Life clubs, and overseeing Campaigner ministries. They will also be involved in evaluating local schools and ministries, developing plans to maximize Gospel proclamation through camping opportunities, and participating in summer assignments at Young Life properties. Additionally, the director will manage administrative tasks, maintain accurate records, and ensure clear communication within the ministry.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations of several departments providing mission services.
  • Lead in developing a team to carry out Young Life's mission.

  • Maintain relationships within a church community.
  • Lead teams in spiritual development and ensure prayer dependence in ministry activities.
  • Partner with Regional Director to cast vision for reaching every kid.
  • Develop consistent gatherings with committee and staff for unity and direction.
  • Create a spiritual leadership plan for volunteer leaders and committee members.
  • Recruit and train new staff and leaders to build leadership teams.
  • Supervise and evaluate area staff, providing necessary resources.
  • Provide quality summer staff and adult guests for summer camps.
  • Model excellence in contact work and club activities.
  • Train leaders on effective teamwork and ministry strategy.
  • Lead fundraising strategy and ensure communication to donors.
  • Raise necessary funds to maintain ministry vision and budget.
  • Build Young Life brand through public relations and events.
  • Engage in contact work and lead Young Life clubs and Campaigners.
  • Evaluate local schools and ministries annually.
  • Develop plans for Gospel proclamation through camping opportunities.
  • Manage finances with stewardship and transparency.
  • Maintain accurate records of kids, leaders, and donors.
  • Set yearly strategic ministry plans and review regularly.

Requirements

  • College degree preferred.
  • Completed Core Training - Phase One.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Strong relational skills with kids and adults.
  • A call to reach kids with the Gospel.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
