About the position

The Area Director of Telecommunications/PBX Operations is responsible for managing and coordinating the Medical Center Communications personnel and systems. This role ensures the effective delivery of care and service to Health Plan members by overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of telecommunications systems. The director will consult with Medical Center Managers and Physicians on telecommunications equipment and issues, ensuring optimal functionality and service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the telecommunications department.
  • Provide communication staff coverage 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the policies and procedures of the department.
  • Manage and oversee Medical Center telecommunications systems and processes, including voice mail and pager systems.
  • Enhance patient care by ensuring proper selection, installation, and maintenance of telecommunications equipment and systems.
  • Develop operating, capital remodel, and ratemaking budgets based on functional needs.
  • Maintain cost-effective operations within budgetary allocation.
  • Ensure minimal disruptions and maximum service during the implementation of new systems or products.
  • Liaison with Regional and External Telecommunication Specialists and Facilities personnel.
  • Serve on Regional and Medical Center telecommunication functional teams and committees.
  • Determine standards, goals, analysis, and measurements needed to implement and monitor performance.
  • Develop processes for ensuring quality of service and technical competency of staff.
  • Ensure regulatory and organizational requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or four (4) years of experience managing medical center communications systems or other directly related experience required.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications equipment and systems.
  • Ability to effectively manage Medical Center personnel.
  • Skills and experience in managing large scale project implementations.
  • Demonstrated communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree preferred.
