About the position

As an Area Human Resources Manager at Graham Packaging, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing various HR functions across multiple manufacturing plants. This position is integral to the development and administration of HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legal requirements while fostering a positive work environment. You will be responsible for recruitment and retention strategies, onboarding processes, employee relations, training, payroll, compensation, safety, and benefits management. Your role will require you to maintain and update employee records, generate various reports, and provide coaching to employees on work-related matters. You will work closely with the Plant Manager and the Plant Leadership team to understand business issues and provide solutions that align with the company's goals. In this position, you will provide direct HR support to an estimated 2-3 manufacturing plants, offering day-to-day performance management guidance to line management, which includes coaching, counseling, career development, and disciplinary actions. You will manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, ensuring that you maintain an in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to employee management, thereby reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will partner with site leadership to conduct new employee touch points, stay interviews, and roundtable meetings, analyzing trends and collaborating with site and corporate HR leadership to develop and implement programs that address business needs. Tracking key metrics related to employee morale, turnover, retention, and engagement will be a critical part of your responsibilities. You will work with site and regional leadership to develop strategies aimed at improving retention and employee engagement. Additionally, you will lead sensitive investigations into employee relations matters, including complaints of discrimination, harassment, and other workplace policy violations. Your leadership will extend to managing the annual Performance Management, Talent Review, and Succession Planning programs, ensuring that talent is built through career growth and retention initiatives. You will also oversee the annual goal setting, performance review, and merit increase processes for both salaried and hourly employees, while partnering with the Corporate Benefits Team to communicate and administer health and welfare benefits, wellness programs, and other reward and recognition programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct HR support to a group of manufacturing plants (estimated 2-3 plants).
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).

  • Analyze trends and partner with site and corporate HR leadership to develop and implement programs to address business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management or related field.
  • Eight-plus years of progressive business HR work experience in operationally focused settings.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, able to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills in written and verbal form.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
  • High level of emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time and manage remotely.

Nice-to-haves

  • Multi-site HR management experience highly desired.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state employment laws.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
