About the position

The Area Manager of Asset Protection is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing Asset Protection leaders and teams across both Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores within a designated district. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including recruiting, developing, and managing performance oversight of the Asset Protection teams, as well as budgeting. The Area Manager will co-develop and execute the company's shrink reduction strategy, ensuring that financial performance aligns with the company's goals. This role is crucial for maintaining the safety and security of employees, preventing theft, enhancing profitability, and ensuring alignment with the company's values and business strategy. In addition to these responsibilities, the Area Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams throughout the organization. This includes leading shrink reduction business plans, providing visibility into programs, and supporting the evolution of the retail asset protection business. The position is field-based, requiring travel to various store locations to effectively manage and implement asset protection strategies. The Area Manager will also be responsible for leading and articulating the vision and values of the organization and the Asset Protection department. This includes developing effective partnerships with multiple teams, analyzing shrink data to identify trends, and driving participation in security and safety initiatives. The role demands a results-oriented leader who can manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and articulate the vision and values of the organization and the Asset Protection department within the assigned area.
  • Develop effective partnerships and interact extensively with multiple teams in cross-functional areas including District leadership, Store Management, and Human Resources.
  • Evaluate relevant shrink data from multiple sources to identify trends in internal and external theft.
  • Drive, communicate, and monitor store participation in Asset Protection awareness and training topics.
  • Forecast and problem solve theft-related issues and manage complex projects for shrink improvement.
  • Lead implementation of company shrink programs and directives, ensuring compliance and awareness culture in all assigned stores.
  • Analyze security and safety metrics and recommend practical solutions to address outliers.
  • Manage the implementation of programs designed to protect company assets from loss due to theft and unsafe practices.
  • Investigate cases of internal and external theft or fraud and conduct interviews when appropriate.
  • Conduct training of incident response plans and escalate high-risk incidents when necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred or demonstrated experience required.
  • 5-8+ years' experience in asset protection, loss prevention, inventory control, or security services; multi-unit experience preferred.
  • 5 years' experience in managing people leaders.
  • WZ certification required, CFI certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead effective shrink strategy.
  • Ability to multi-task, make decisions, and provide guidance in stressful situations.
  • Strong time management skills with the capacity to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Effective interpersonal skills both written and verbal with the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Proficient in exception-based reporting, CCTV, and alarm-based reporting.
  • Proficient with MS Office Professional Suite, including intermediate knowledge of Excel.

Nice-to-haves
