About the position

The Performance Foodservice team is dedicated to building strong relationships with a diverse range of local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. As a broadline distributor, Performance Foodservice not only delivers high-quality food products but also provides invaluable support to independent restaurant owners, helping them achieve their business goals through expert advice on operations, menu development, product selection, and strategic planning. This role is crucial in fostering these relationships and ensuring customer satisfaction through exemplary service and support. In this position, you will be responsible for the development of independent account business, focusing on profitability through new sales and account penetration. You will promote and sell company-branded products while meeting brand sales objectives. Additionally, you may support customer service activities for regional and national chain customers, enhancing the company's visibility in the marketplace and maximizing market share. As a team member, you will collaborate with colleagues to perform various duties that best serve the company and its customers. Your primary responsibilities will include generating additional business by analyzing your sales territory and individual customer needs, sampling products, and planning effective sales strategies. You will be tasked with growing sales and profit margins to meet established goals, setting up new customer accounts, and ensuring customer satisfaction through follow-up and coordination with other personnel. You will also monitor accounts for compliance with credit terms and address any issues that arise, all while maintaining awareness of pricing trends to ensure competitive pricing in your territory.

Responsibilities

  • Generate additional business through analyzing sales territory and individual customers.
  • Sample products with existing and potential customers.
  • Plan general sales strategy including time and territory management.
  • Plan sales approach with individual customers and conduct effective sales presentations.
  • Grow sales and profit margins on an ongoing basis to meet established sales and margin goals.
  • Set up new customer accounts by determining pricing and working with the Credit Department for initial authorization.
  • Perform initial follow-up work with customers ensuring delivery and product satisfaction.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by providing exemplary service and coordinating efforts to prevent and resolve customer problems.
  • Build additional business with current customers through product penetration to maximize profitability of individual accounts.
  • Minimize accounts receivable problems by monitoring accounts for compliance with credit terms and following up on any issues.
  • Maintain awareness of pricing trends within sales territory, particularly on market-driven/commodity products.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent
  • 6-12 months sales/marketing and/or restaurant experience
  • Valid Drivers License

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Management, Sales/Marketing, or related area
  • 1-2 years foodservice sales/marketing and/or restaurant experience
