About the position

The Head Start Area Manager is responsible for the operational management of Head Start and other preschool programs within a designated service area. This role involves direct supervision and training of staff, ensuring compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards and federal mandates, and fostering effective local work teams. The manager will oversee program implementation, staff development, family engagement, community partnerships, and resource management to enhance the self-sufficiency of individuals and families in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational management of assigned early childhood programs.
  • Implement agency policies and federal mandates related to Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  • Recruit and select area staff, providing new hire training and mentoring.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities and maintain full enrollment in classrooms.
  • Complete required documentation and submit records and reports timely.
  • Communicate consistently with the Head Start Regional Manager.
  • Supervise Family Service Coordinators, Teachers, Home Visitors, Bus Drivers, and Cooks.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and develop goals for staff improvement.
  • Facilitate professional development plans and monthly staff meetings.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of family partnership plans.
  • Monitor health services systems regarding children's health and nutritional status.
  • Conduct monitoring activities and ensure adherence to child supervision policy.
  • Promote Head Start to the public and recruit families through community activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of current database systems and oversee local program budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Education, Family Studies, Social Work, or related field with a major in early childhood education/child development.
  • Three (3) years of experience in supervision or management.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate work in related fields.
  • Experience in observation and evaluation, personnel management, and designing individualized service plans for children and families.
  • Family Service Worker credential (preferred).
  • CLASS reliability (required once hired).
