About the position

The Area Manager for Straightening at CMC is responsible for overseeing the operations within the Straightening Area, ensuring efficient shipping, receiving, and production processes while maintaining safety and environmental standards. This role involves leading a team, meeting customer expectations, and managing inventory effectively, all while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises activities of the Straightening Area including shipping, receiving, operations, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Leads pre-shift meetings covering safety topics, stretch exercises, and daily plans.
  • Responsible for meeting and exceeding customer expectations regarding on-time performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Communicates daily with production operators to identify opportunities, issues, and concerns.
  • Holds team members accountable for their behavior and performance, addressing performance problems promptly.
  • Maintains and submits all required daily and monthly reports to management.
  • Performs SAP functions related to sawing and straightening merchant bar.
  • Assists in controlling inventory dollars and tons by meeting inventory turn standards set by the company.
  • Collaborates with the Operations Manager and Plant Manager to achieve plant goals.
  • Operates and troubleshoots all equipment in the Straightening area, including straighteners, saws, and mobile material handling equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of Straightening experience or related experience in the Steel Industry.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience required.
  • Extensive understanding of all equipment within the straightening department.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills including MS Word, Kronos, and SAP.
  • Knowledge of departmental flows to schedule downtime and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Proven experience in utilizing math, verbal, mechanical, analytical, and planning skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the business.
  • Ability to assist in problem-solving in all areas of the plant.
  • Ability to multitask and handle stress in a highly productive environment.
  • Ability to work with exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, dust, fumes, mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, elevated work areas, and confined spaces.
