About the position

The Area Operations Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating branch operations to optimize the use of equipment, warehouse processes, and personnel. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of various operational processes including warehouse, dispatch, transportation, and counter sales, with a focus on achieving operational excellence across multiple locations.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, monitor, and maintain company performance metrics for order fill rate, on-time delivery, equipment utilization, and inventory accuracy.
  • Conduct audits to monitor metrics that do not meet company standards or requirements.
  • Utilize metrics and audits to quantify operational performance and develop strategies for operational excellence.
  • Facilitate regularly scheduled operations meetings with operations and location managers.
  • Resolve operating difficulties and implement resolutions.
  • Assist in preparation of store budgets and monitor compliance with budgetary constraints.
  • Review production reports, department expenses, labor costs, and other operational documents.
  • Measure productivity of departments within the branch, including counter, warehouse, and logistics/drivers.
  • Focus on warehouse and delivery efficiencies to achieve on-time delivery to meet customer needs.
  • Ensure vehicles are serviced as required and vehicle condition reports are completed and addressed.
  • Review product flow for optimal space and labor utilization.
  • Confirm inventory levels and cycle counting processes are properly maintained.
  • Monitor operational expenses within managed departments.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures involving customers, vendors, and employees.
  • Review personnel assignments with branch managers and make recommendations based on service needs and sales plans.
  • Confirm that the branch conducts regular meetings and attend as required.
  • Work with sales management to ensure proper communication and training is maintained.
  • Assist customers in resolving problems and follow up on complaints to ensure satisfactory outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 4-6 years of operational experience in a fast-paced distribution organization required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of general operations management and financial principles.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills along with demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in MS programs and computer-based inventory control systems (WMS preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to promoting quality and continuous process improvement.
