About the position

The Area Sales Manager for Performance Foodservice in Montgomery, Alabama, is responsible for the development and management of independent account business, focusing on profitability through new sales and account penetration. This role involves promoting and selling company-branded products while meeting brand sales objectives. The Area Sales Manager will also support customer service activities for regional and national chain customers, enhancing the company's visibility in the marketplace and maximizing market share. As a key team member, the Area Sales Manager will perform various duties assigned to best serve the company and its clients. In this position, the Area Sales Manager will generate additional business by analyzing the sales territory and individual customers. This includes sampling products with existing and potential customers, planning a general sales strategy that encompasses time and territory management, and conducting effective sales presentations. The role requires a proactive approach to growing sales and profit margins to meet established goals, as well as setting up new customer accounts by determining pricing and coordinating with the Credit Department for initial authorization. Customer satisfaction is paramount, and the Area Sales Manager will ensure exemplary service by collaborating with other center personnel to prevent and resolve customer issues. In emergency situations, the manager may be responsible for making deliveries. Additionally, the role involves building business with current customers through product penetration to maximize account profitability and monitoring accounts for compliance with credit terms to minimize receivable problems. Staying informed about pricing trends within the sales territory, particularly for market-driven and commodity products, is essential to maintain competitive pricing. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Generate additional business through analyzing sales territory and individual customers.
  • Sample products with existing and potential customers.
  • Plan general sales strategy including time and territory management.
  • Plan sales approach with individual customers and conduct effective sales presentations.
  • Grow sales and profit margins on an ongoing basis to meet established sales and margin goals.
  • Set up new customer accounts by determining pricing and working with the Credit Department for initial authorization.
  • Perform initial follow-up work with customers ensuring delivery and product satisfaction.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by providing exemplary service and coordinating efforts to prevent and resolve customer problems.
  • Build additional business with current customers through product penetration to maximize profitability of individual accounts.
  • Minimize accounts receivable problems by monitoring accounts for compliance with credit terms and following up on any issues.
  • Maintain awareness of pricing trends within sales territory, particularly on market-driven/commodity products.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent
  • 6-12 months sales/marketing and/or restaurant experience
  • Valid Drivers License

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Management, Sales/Marketing, or related area
  • 1-2 years foodservice sales/marketing and/or restaurant experience
