About the position

As an Area Sales Manager at ADM Ag Services and Oilseeds, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team of talented sales professionals dedicated to building long-term relationships with producer customers. This position is crucial for securing supply chains that are essential for feeding the world's growing population, enhancing diets, and promoting environmental sustainability through regenerative agricultural practices. You will oversee a significant sales territory within the Western IL/Missouri Region, managing the origination activities for ADM's Grain and Oilseeds business under the guidance of your Regional Sales Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and supporting farm direct grain origination, developing strategies for growth, and collaborating closely with operational and commercial business partners. Your ability to establish trust and positive relationships with customers will be key, as you will need to uncover their needs and deliver value effectively. You will also be expected to develop a deep understanding of the region's unique origination footprint, strategic goals, and competitive landscape, which will inform your decision-making and strategy execution. Your responsibilities will include executing regional Regen Ag programs, managing data and technology adoption, and collaborating with various segments of the business to ensure peak performance and an exceptional customer experience. You will also be tasked with developing market opinions to inform your team and customers about market opportunities, implementing consistent prospecting and pipeline development plans, and evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of your team through coaching and mentoring. This role requires a self-starter with strong analytical abilities, effective communication skills, and a commitment to utilizing technology to enhance sales activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support farm direct grain origination, strategy, and growth with a team of sales personnel.
  • Establish positive relationships with customers to uncover their needs and deliver value.
  • Develop customer acuity to understand each customer's footprint and strategic growth plans.
  • Learn and develop the region's unique origination footprint and competitive landscape.
  • Execute and support regional Regen Ag programs, including data management and technology adoption.
  • Collaborate with commercial and operations segments to create peak performance for ADM.
  • Develop market opinion to inform team members and customers of market opportunities.
  • Implement consistent prospecting and pipeline development plans for each team member.
  • Evaluate and manage the strengths and weaknesses of your team through coaching and mentoring.
  • Provide leadership and education on grain and related markets to sales team members.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of sales experience in the agricultural industry.
  • Ability to evaluate and manage risk in sales calls with customers and prospects.
  • Dedication to being a positive and professional team leader.
  • Capacity to coach, mentor, and develop sales staff with strong collaboration.
  • Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills to adapt to change.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to interface with various levels within ADM.
  • Basic understanding of grain markets and production agriculture.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook and Teams.
  • Commitment to using Salesforce for tracking customer interactions and business information.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
