The Area Sales Manager at Performance Food Group is responsible for the development of independent account business, focusing on overall profitability through both new sales and account penetration. This role involves promoting and selling company-branded products while meeting brand sales objectives. The Area Sales Manager may also support customer service activities for regional and/or national chain customers, thereby increasing the company's visibility in the marketplace and maximizing market share. This position functions as a team member within the department and organization, performing any duty assigned to best serve the company. In this role, the Area Sales Manager generates additional business by analyzing the sales territory and individual customers. This includes sampling products with existing and potential customers, planning general sales strategies, managing time and territory effectively, and conducting effective sales presentations. The manager is expected to grow sales and profit margins continuously to meet established sales and margin goals. The Area Sales Manager is responsible for setting up new customer accounts, determining pricing, and working with the Credit Department for initial authorization. They also coordinate with other center personnel for scheduling order-taking and deliveries, ensuring customer satisfaction by providing exemplary service. This includes building additional business with current customers through product penetration to maximize profitability and minimizing accounts receivable problems by monitoring compliance with credit terms. Additionally, the Area Sales Manager maintains awareness of pricing trends within the sales territory, particularly on market-driven and commodity products, to ensure competitive pricing. The role may also involve performing other related duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the company.
