About the position

The Area Sales Manager at McKesson is a pivotal role within the Medical Surgical Primary Care Sales team, responsible for leading a team of field sales account executives in the Washington DC to Baltimore MD area. This position is designed for an individual who can effectively set direction in alignment with business initiatives, attract and select talent, and onboard new employees to enhance productivity. The Area Sales Manager will drive performance through their team by providing direction, feedback, and fostering a trust-based, inclusive work environment. This role requires a strong focus on developing employees through coaching and feedback, as well as recognizing and rewarding their contributions through ongoing recognition and core pay-for-performance practices. In this role, the Area Sales Manager will be accountable for achieving financial objectives, including Gross Profit goals and related Management by Objectives (MBO) targets. This will involve participating in monthly check-ins with Regional Vice Presidents (RVPs), reviewing performance against plans, and adjusting local tactics based on RVP guidance to enhance performance. The Area Sales Manager will also be responsible for creating and executing local strategies to drive growth and team performance. The position requires the Area Sales Manager to embody McKesson's culture by modeling ICARE and ILEAD behaviors, communicating key corporate messages, and promoting team building. They will lead their team through change, manage performance, and ensure that team members are informed and motivated. The Area Sales Manager will also focus on top customers, conducting business reviews, and ensuring account retention and growth. Collaboration with McKesson specialists and the use of technology and analytics to improve results are also key components of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve Gross Profit goal and related MBO targets through key responsibilities and local strategies.
  • Participate in monthly check-ins with RVPs to review performance and adjust tactics as needed.
  • Model ICARE and ILEAD behaviors to embody McKesson's culture and promote team building.
  • Drive performance and development activities for team members, including coaching and training.
  • Create, document, and update annual strategic and tactical plans to ensure financial plan achievement.
  • Focus on top customers and lead bi-annual business reviews with the top 10 customers by revenue.
  • Collaborate with McKesson Sales Specialists to develop strategic sales plans and ensure field adoption of specialized offerings.
  • Utilize data and analytics to inform sales opportunity selection and improve results.

Requirements

  • 9 years of professional experience in a sales environment.
  • 1 year of supervisory and/or management experience.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Experience selling to C-suite executives.
  • Experience leading a team within a sales environment.
  • Strong financial acumen to analyze trends and growth.
  • Mature confidence and self-awareness to influence others.
  • Superior communication skills for effective interaction.
  • Ability to make difficult decisions and have challenging conversations.
  • Demonstrated performance management and sales leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and CRM tools.
  • Experience in distribution sales and building a new region/territory.
  • Prior healthcare experience is preferred.
