About the position

The Area Sales Manager (ASM) at Dorman Products is responsible for driving sales and profitability within an assigned territory, primarily focusing on warehouse distributors and secondary contacts with jobbers. This role requires a proactive approach to customer engagement, ensuring that Dorman's products are effectively presented and promoted. The ASM will also gather market intelligence and communicate competitive risks and opportunities back to corporate, making this a critical position for the company's growth and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Drive sales, profitability, and awareness of Dorman Products with mid-sized traditional customers within the assigned territory.
  • Work with current and potential customers to gain new distribution and optimize inventory/deployment within existing categories.
  • Maintain relationships with assigned accounts to ensure proper presentation and promotion of Dorman's products.
  • Maintain regular contact with customers and represent Dorman at customer events.
  • Assist with pull-through support such as sales/counterperson training, market blitzes, and changeovers.
  • Communicate competitive risks, opportunities, and new product ideas back to corporate.

Requirements

  • High level of competency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Self-starter that thrives in a remote office environment.
  • Fact-based competitive selling experience and strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel 50% or more of the time, including weekend travel as needed.
  • Capability to lift 250 pounds.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, automotive technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of applicable experience.
  • Prior experience working with warehouse distributors, jobbers, or technicians preferred.
