About the position

The Area Sales Manager for Mercado Ahorros at Sunbelt Merchant Group is responsible for driving sales growth in the North Houston area, particularly within the Hispanic grocery store market. This role involves acting as a liaison between vendors and independent store owners, providing exceptional customer service, and implementing marketing strategies to enhance store profitability. The position requires a strong understanding of the local culture and market dynamics, as well as the ability to work independently and flexibly to meet customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Represent Mercado Ahorros as a liaison between vendors and independent store owner customers.
  • Generate sales by identifying opportunities, conducting business reviews, and closing deals.
  • Engage with store owners to provide solutions that increase their sales and profits through marketing campaigns and promotions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by being responsive and available to customers at all times.
  • Solve problems and ensure positive communication between vendors and store owners.
  • Examine store layout and merchandise to optimize for maximum sales.
  • Analyze financial data to identify business opportunities and increase sales.
  • Spend approximately 80% of time prospecting new customers and 20% providing customer service to existing locations.

Requirements

  • An intimate understanding of the Mexican culture in the Houston area.
  • 3 years of outside sales experience.
  • Experience selling to or managing convenience stores and gas stations is highly desirable.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • An existing network and knowledge of Hispanic grocery stores in the north and northwest Houston market is highly desirable.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to be self-directed and work remotely.
  • Ability to understand P&L and store reports to affect change.
  • Act with integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to quickly build rapport and business relationships with customers and vendors.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Clean, professional appearance.
  • Well-developed organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products such as Teams, Excel, and Word.
  • Flexibility to travel and attend events outside regular business hours when necessary.
