About the position

The Area Sales Manager (ASM) at DMG MORI USA, INC is primarily responsible for driving sales of DMG MORI products, focusing on providing innovative solutions tailored to customer work requirements on DMG MORI machine tools. This role is crucial in developing prospective accounts and retaining existing customers, reporting directly to the Regional Sales Director. The ASM will engage in a variety of essential functions that include building and nurturing customer relationships, promoting the sale of company products, and providing technical sales support. The position requires proactive engagement with customers, including a minimum of 25 visits per week to assess their needs and resolve any engineering or service-related issues. The ASM will also collaborate with Applications Engineers to evaluate equipment needs and recommend improvements in materials or machinery to enhance customer operations. In addition to direct sales responsibilities, the ASM will be tasked with developing, presenting, and responding to proposals that meet specific customer requirements. This role involves strategic planning to achieve yearly sales goals and requires the submission of weekly territory planning and management information system (MIS) reports, as well as timely expense reports. The ASM will also have the opportunity to participate in semiannual visits to OEM factories located in Japan, Germany, Italy, and China, further enhancing their understanding of the products and market dynamics. The work environment is primarily an office setting, but there will be periodic exposure to manufacturing environments, which may present certain hazards. The physical demands of the job include frequent travel, operating a vehicle, and engaging in various physical activities such as standing, walking, and using computers.

Responsibilities

  • Build and foster customer relationships.
  • Promote the sale of company products and provide technical sales support.
  • Confer with Applications Engineers to assess equipment needs.
  • Develop, present, or respond to proposals for specific customer requirements.
  • Recommend improved materials or machinery to customers.
  • Proactively visit customer facilities for review of outstanding engineering and service-related problems, including strategic review of sales opportunities.
  • Submit weekly territory planning and MIS reports.
  • Submit expense reports timely, per expense policy requirements.
  • Conduct semiannual visits to OEM factories in Japan, Germany, Italy, and China.
  • Develop strategic and tactical plans to accomplish yearly sales goals.
  • Partner with engineering staff for demonstrations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university.
  • 3-5 years in B2B sales/Business Development.
