About the position

The Armed Security Officer position at Stormont-Vail HealthCare, Inc. is a part-time role focused on ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, and employees within the medical center. This position requires a commitment to enforcing regulations, policies, and laws that contribute to a secure environment. The officer will be responsible for conducting routine security patrols, particularly in the Emergency Department lobby and surrounding areas, to prevent theft, property damage, and disorderly conduct. The role also involves responding to escalating situations involving patients and visitors, ensuring a calm and safe atmosphere in potentially volatile circumstances. In addition to patrolling, the officer will engage in various security-related functions, including report writing, monitoring CCTV, and assisting patients as needed. The position requires attendance at workshops and training sessions to maintain proficiency in security practices and to stay updated on relevant laws and regulations. The officer must comply with all policies and standards set forth by Stormont Vail Health, ensuring that all actions align with the organization's commitment to safety and security. This role is critical in maintaining a secure environment within the medical center, and it requires a high level of professionalism, communication skills, and the ability to handle stressful situations effectively. The officer will work part-time, with shifts scheduled for evenings, specifically from 3:30 PM to 11:30 PM, every other week from Sunday to Thursday.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce regulations, policies, and laws to ensure safety and security of patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Perform routine security patrols in the Emergency Department lobby and surrounding areas.
  • Respond to escalating and combative situations involving patients and visitors.
  • Conduct report writing and monitor CCTV for security purposes.
  • Assist patients as needed and maintain a safe environment through proactive measures.
  • Attend workshops and training sessions to maintain proficiency in security practices.

Requirements

  • Graduated from a law enforcement academy.
  • 2 years of law enforcement experience with a current agency or retired status with a Law Enforcement Agency.
  • Possess a firearms permit from a sponsored Law Enforcement Agency.
  • Meet the LEOSA Standard of 10 or more years of experience in law enforcement or military police.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Good communication skills, including talking and listening abilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, policies, and guidelines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare security environment.
  • Knowledge of emergency response protocols.
  • First aid and CPR certification.
