About the position

The Armed Special Police Officer position is responsible for enforcing laws and maintaining public safety within Washington, DC. This role requires a strong commitment to justice and professionalism, as officers will respond to calls, conduct investigations, and provide community support. The position can be part-time or full-time, with various shift options available.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect crime, and to enforce traffic laws and regulations.
  • Respond to calls for assistance, including emergencies, and provide first aid and support as needed.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of crimes and gather evidence to support the prosecution of offenders.
  • Write detailed reports of incidents and arrests, and maintain accurate records of all activities.
  • Perform surveillance to monitor criminal activity and prevent further harm.
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to share intelligence and coordinate efforts to combat crime.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills by guiding and training other officers and by providing guidance to community members.
  • Manage conflicts between individuals and groups, and take appropriate action to resolve disputes peacefully.
  • Provide animal care and control in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Operate a vehicle safely and efficiently to respond to calls and perform other duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the department.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in loss prevention and criminal investigation.
  • Strong knowledge of first aid and the ability to provide medical assistance in emergency situations.
  • Excellent report writing skills, with the ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • Proficiency in law enforcement procedures and protocols.
  • Leadership skills, with the ability to guide and train other officers and community members.
  • Effective conflict management skills, with the ability to resolve disputes peacefully.
  • Strong animal care and control skills.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to operate a vehicle safely and efficiently.
  • Strong surveillance skills, with the ability to monitor criminal activity and prevent further harm.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve department goals.
