About the position
The Art History Instructor position is a part-time adjunct role at Kern Community College District, focusing on teaching a range of Art History courses, particularly within the Inmate Education Program. The instructor will engage with incarcerated students and may teach at various times and locations, utilizing diverse teaching methodologies. This role emphasizes curriculum development, student recruitment, and maintaining current knowledge in the field.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in a full range of Art History courses.
- Teach at off-campus sites, including day, evening, and weekend classes.
- Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Visual and Performing Arts department.
- Maintain subject matter currency and develop/revise curriculum.
- Utilize computer and multimedia technology in teaching.
- Engage in departmental, college, and discipline-specific professional activities.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Art History, History of Art and Architecture, or visual culture/visual studies; OR Bachelor's degree in Art History AND Master's degree in History; OR Master's degree in Art with an emphasis in Art History; OR valid credential for full-time teaching of Art at the California community college level; OR equivalent qualifications.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in teaching large classes and using distance learning methodologies.
- Familiarity with the California community college mission and its educational goals.
