About the position

The Art Instructor - Digital Arts at Exceptional Children's Foundation is responsible for guiding and facilitating studio art practices for adults with varying degrees of disabilities. The role focuses on providing professional development and integrating these artists into the local art community. The instructor will teach various art mediums, including drawing, animation, video art, digital art, and 2D design, while ensuring the safety and progress of the artists during their creative processes.

Responsibilities

  • Implement individual artistic goals based on the artist's Individual Service Plan (ISP).
  • Ensure the safety of artists during operating hours and community outings.
  • Assist artists in maintaining monthly progress notes and participate in assigned meetings.
  • Ensure accurate attendance recordings.
  • Provide supervision during artists' arrival, departure, breaks, and lunchtime.
  • Instruct artists on the proper use of materials and care for their artwork.
  • Monitor artists throughout their art projects and assist with ISP-related projects.
  • Set up and maintain equipment and ensure supplies are ordered and maintained.
  • Organize and label artists' portfolios and store artwork appropriately.
  • Participate in staff meetings to implement artistic and educational objectives for each artist.
  • Address the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse artists.
  • Follow protocols for assisting artists during incidents or seizures and employ NCI procedures as needed.
  • Adhere to ECF's safety programs and report emergencies or unusual incidents.
  • Implement First Aid/CPR as necessary and assist artists with personal hygiene needs.
  • Promote the Art Center during work hours and support events and programs.
  • Staff and supervise special exhibits and assist in organizing art shows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrable skills in 2D and digital art techniques.
  • Six months of experience in studio work, teaching, or related fields.
  • Knowledge in one art specialty area and digital art.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills including email and video calls.
  • Portfolio of completed work.
  • Pass a DOJ background investigation.
  • Provide evidence of a negative TB test.
  • Obtain and maintain NCI, First Aid, and CPR certification.
  • Ability to use public transportation or ECF vehicle for community outings.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with adults with disabilities.
  • Familiarity with the Lanterman Act and Person-Centered Thinking Practices.
