About the position

The Art/Social Studies Teacher at Apollo Middle School is responsible for developing and implementing a curriculum program that aligns with the educational goals and objectives of the District. This position requires a commitment to fostering a safe and respectful classroom environment that promotes the emotional and physical well-being of students. The teacher will observe and monitor student behavior across various settings, including the classroom, playground, and during field trips, ensuring that students feel secure and valued. The role involves assessing student needs and creating daily lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles, while also modifying instruction as necessary to meet individual student requirements. In addition to lesson planning, the teacher will utilize effective classroom management techniques to maintain order and promote a productive learning atmosphere. This includes employing positive reinforcement strategies to encourage desired behaviors and educational outcomes. The teacher will evaluate student progress through written assignments and tests, providing feedback to both students and parents regarding academic performance and methods for improvement. Collaboration with other educators and specialists is essential to support students with varying needs, and the teacher may also oversee the activities of teacher assistants and classroom volunteers. The position requires a strong understanding of state and federal educational standards, as well as knowledge of developmental levels of school-age children. The teacher must be skilled in various teaching techniques and classroom management methods, and possess effective communication skills to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. The physical demands of the job include frequent sitting, repetitive motion, and the ability to lift materials as needed, all within an indoor environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a curriculum program consistent with District educational goals and objectives.
  • Observe and monitor student behavior in various settings including the classroom, playground, and during field trips.
  • Establish and maintain a classroom atmosphere that ensures the emotional and physical safety of students.
  • Assess student needs and develop, implement, and evaluate daily lesson plans.
  • Modify instruction to meet the needs of each child.
  • Plan, organize, and display classroom materials and space appropriate to curricular activities.
  • Utilize classroom management techniques to maintain organization and a productive learning environment.
  • Use positive reinforcement to maximize desired behavior and educational outcomes.
  • Evaluate written materials including assignments and tests, and analyze student progress.
  • Inform parents of student progress and instructional methods that may assist their children.
  • Collaborate with specialists to assist students with special needs.
  • Monitor the activities of teacher assistants and classroom volunteers.
  • Order classroom supplies and instructional materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid Arizona Elementary 1-8 Teaching Certificate.
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal educational standards.
  • Understanding of developmental levels of school-age children.
  • Familiarity with District and Department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of various teaching techniques and methods.
  • Skill in effective written and oral communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
