About the position

The Art Teacher at Desmond Middle School is responsible for providing instruction in art to students in grades 7-8, utilizing principles of human development and appropriate learning strategies to foster academic, vocational, and personal growth. The teacher will prepare instructional materials, implement educational policies, and participate in professional development activities. The role requires collaboration with other staff members, including administration and counseling, to ensure a comprehensive educational experience for students. The Art Teacher will also engage with parents and community members to address the instructional needs of students, fostering positive relationships within the school community. Additionally, the teacher will monitor student achievement and adjust instructional methods based on data to meet the diverse needs of learners. The position may also involve supervising students to ensure their safety and well-being during school hours.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in art to middle school students.
• Prepare materials needed to assist students in their learning.
• Implement educational policies, procedures, and mandates as required.
• Prepare and submit reports and plans accurately and on time.
• Participate in professional development opportunities.
• Engage in school, district, and department activities and meetings.
• Collaborate with other staff members, including administration and counseling.
• Provide instruction in compliance with state and federal laws, district policies, and site needs.
• Work with parents and community members to address instructional needs.
• Foster positive relationships between students, staff, and community members.
• Supervise students to ensure their safety during school hours.
• Monitor student achievement and adjust instruction based on student data.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in education or a related field.
• Graduate level coursework in education is preferred.
• Completion of student teaching experience is required.
• Valid California Teaching Credential for art with English Learner's Authorization.
