About the position

The Art Teacher position at Christina School District in Newark, DE, is a full-time, temporary, and contracted role that offers a pay rate of $34.98 per hour. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching high school art classes, adhering to the educational philosophy and policies set forth by the Board of Education. This role requires the teacher to utilize both State and District curriculum guidelines to effectively plan and implement a program of study that caters to the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of students. In addition to delivering art instruction, the teacher will manage a caseload of special education students, ensuring that their unique educational needs are met. The position involves regular communication with students regarding their academic progress and creating opportunities for students to showcase their work to parents and the community. The teacher will also be expected to interpret and utilize data from various educational sources to enhance instructional methods and outcomes. Collaboration with colleagues is essential, as the teacher will engage in cross-content instruction and school-wide initiatives. Participation in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings is required, along with the collection and review of assessment data related to IEP goals. The teacher will employ appropriate instructional methods, behavioral management techniques, and social-emotional learning strategies to foster a positive learning environment. Maintaining a safe and aesthetically pleasing physical environment is crucial, as is encouraging students to adhere to classroom and school rules. The teacher will keep accurate records and reports as mandated by educational codes and will work cooperatively with all school personnel. Professional growth opportunities will be pursued, and the teacher is expected to report to work punctually every day, fulfilling all assigned duties as per the contractual agreement and state law.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned classes using the educational philosophy and policies adopted by the Board of Education.
  • Utilize State and District curriculum guidelines in carrying out teaching assignments.
  • Plan and implement a program of study that meets students' needs, interests, and abilities using available resources.
  • Effectively manage caseload of special education students.
  • Monitor and maintain the working condition of course technology.
  • Interact with colleagues to promote cross-content instruction and school-wide collaboration.
  • Regularly communicate with students concerning their academic progress.
  • Create opportunities for students to display work for parents and the community.
  • Interpret and use data from various educational sources for the improvement of instruction.
  • Attend and participate in IEP meetings for assigned students.
  • Collect and review assessment data related to IEP goals.
  • Use appropriate instructional methods, behavioral management, and social-emotional learning strategies.
  • Encourage and assist in the development of independent study habits.
  • Promote students' feelings of self-worth through positive actions.
  • Provide care and protection of school property, equipment, and materials.
  • Monitor the physical environment considering health, safety, and aesthetic needs of students.
  • Encourage students to behave in accordance with classroom and school rules.
  • Keep accurate and timely records and make reports as necessary and/or required by code.
  • Recognize the importance of parent/teacher cooperation and confer with parents as appropriate.
  • Maintain a professional relationship, working cooperatively with all school personnel.
  • Meet responsibilities as per contractual agreement and State law.
  • Pursue opportunities for professional growth.
  • Report to work on time every workday, except as afforded by existing law.
  • Perform other duties as requested by administration to meet the needs of the students.

Requirements

  • Must hold or be eligible for State of Delaware Teacher License in Art.
  • Must be able to stand and work continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workday.
  • Minimum lifting requirements of 50 pounds (with assistance).
  • Must be able to use arms and hands without restrictions to accommodate the physical, mobility, and ambulatory needs of students.
