About the position

The Art Teacher position at Aurora Elementary is designed for an itinerant educator who will create a flexible and supportive educational program that fosters personal growth and learning among students. The teacher will provide instruction tailored to the appropriate grade level while establishing effective rapport with students, parents, and staff members. This role is crucial in motivating students to develop the necessary skills, attitudes, and knowledge that form a solid educational foundation. The teacher will report directly to the site principal and will be evaluated based on their performance in the classroom. In this position, the teacher is expected to possess a valid Alaska educator certificate and demonstrate content knowledge through various means, such as a degree or minor in the relevant content area, passing Praxis Subject Assessments scores, or a certificate endorsement. The responsibilities of the teacher include developing lesson plans, providing individualized instruction, and adapting the curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students. The teacher will also be responsible for creating a conducive learning environment that respects individual and cultural characteristics, facilitating student learning, and maintaining standards of pupil behavior. The successful candidate will be adept at using current technology to enhance instruction and will be responsible for evaluating students' academic and social growth, keeping appropriate records, and preparing progress reports. Responsibilities

  • Create a flexible and supportive education program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth.
  • Provide instruction at an appropriate grade level while establishing effective rapport with students, parents, and staff members.
  • Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed for a good educational foundation.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, work time, and assessment.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Teach students with respect for their individual and cultural characteristics.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional material and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils.
  • Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Use current technology to enhance instruction and for record-keeping and research.
  • Facilitate, monitor, and assess student learning.
  • Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Identify pupil needs and make appropriate referrals and develop strategies for individual education plans.
  • Create and maintain a learning environment in which all students are actively engaged and contributing members.
  • Supervise student environment, students, and volunteers.
  • Communicate regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, and conferences.

Requirements

  • A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate.
  • Evidence of content knowledge shown by a posted degree or minor in the content area, passing Praxis Subject Assessments scores, or a certificate endorsement in the content area.
  • Ability to describe a philosophy of education and demonstrate its relationship to practice.
  • Understanding of how students learn and develop, applying that knowledge in practice.
  • Ability to establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior.
  • Skill in organizing class time for effective instruction and assessment.
  • Knowledge of the content area and effective teaching methods.
  • Ability to develop lesson plans and instructional materials.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a salary range of $56,823 to $82,218, depending on experience and qualifications.
