The Art Teacher at Discovery School plays a crucial role in nurturing creativity and artistic expression among students from kindergarten through 8th grade. The teacher is expected to create an environment that promotes academic excellence and develops socially responsible leaders.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements the District approved program of study tailored to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Uses effective teaching techniques and materials to achieve established curriculum goals and objectives.
• Prepares weekly written lesson plans that correlate with curriculum objectives.
• Monitors and assesses student progress, communicating regularly with students and parents.
• Diagnoses, instructs, and evaluates specific student needs, seeking assistance from district specialists as required.
• Communicates objectives to students in a clear and organized manner.
• Creates a classroom environment that respects the dignity of all individuals.
• Develops and implements classroom rules of behavior conducive to learning.
• Creates educational experiences that help students develop personal-social adjustment and life skills.
• Promotes and follows the school district's philosophy, policies, and regulations.
• Maintains open communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Assumes legal responsibility for student supervision during school activities.
• Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
• Cooperates with staff in planning instructional goals and selecting materials.
