About the position

The Art Teacher position at Franklin Academy Charter Schools is an instructional role responsible for the educational leadership of middle school students in an innovative charter school environment. The educator is expected to understand and effectively implement the school's curriculum, focusing on student instruction and assessment to maximize educational achievement for all students. This role requires collaboration with colleagues to create a safe, secure, and respectful learning climate. The teacher will be responsible for developing creative lesson plans that cater to the multiple intelligences of students, ensuring that all students are engaged in learning through active participation and hands-on application. The educator will need to demonstrate a command of the subject matter, utilizing theoretical knowledge of learning theory, motivation, reinforcement, evaluation, and feedback techniques. Responsibilities include developing and implementing a data-driven strategic planning system, which encompasses course, unit, and lesson plans that align with state learning standards and the specific grade-by-grade standards set forth by the charter. The teacher will also be responsible for using data to drive continual improvement in student achievement and will employ various assessment strategies to evaluate student progress. Classroom management is a critical aspect of this role, requiring the teacher to implement effective techniques for conflict resolution and crisis management. The educator will provide timely feedback to students and parents regarding student performance and will actively engage in professional development opportunities to enhance instructional delivery techniques. The position is full-time and operates on a 10-month schedule, with a base salary of $47,500, along with additional financial incentives such as a sign-on bonus and retention stipend.

Responsibilities

  • Understand central concepts and tools of inquiry in the discipline taught and make the subject matter meaningful to students.
  • Develop and implement a data-driven strategic planning system including course, unit, and lesson plans.
  • Create lesson plans that ensure the attainment of state learning standards and specific grade-by-grade learning standards.
  • Use data for continual improvement in teaching and learning processes.
  • Implement classroom management techniques effectively, including conflict resolution and crisis management.
  • Provide timely data to students and parents for improvement in student achievement.
  • Evaluate student progress using formal and informal assessment strategies and modify instructional strategies as needed.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and secure classroom environment.
  • Utilize appropriate technology in teaching and learning processes.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and accept feedback from administrative staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
  • Possession of valid teaching certification (as appropriate).
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years successful teaching experience (may include Student Teaching Internship experience).
  • Effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
  • Deep knowledge in subject areas and executes highly-effective pedagogy.
  • Takes initiative and is resourceful in problem solving.
  • Positive interpersonal skills and ability to work well on a team.
  • Successful results of criminal and employment background check and drug testing.
  • Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.
