About the position

The Art Teacher position at Windham Primary School is a part-time role, requiring the instructor to teach one day per week. The primary goal of this position is to foster an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual arts among students. The teacher will utilize various skills and techniques of artistic expression that align with the interests and abilities of the pupils. This role is essential in developing aesthetic understandings and appreciations, as well as discovering and nurturing the artistic talents of students in the field of art. In this position, the teacher will be responsible for delivering knowledge and skills in various art forms, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and 3-dimensional art. The curriculum will follow the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, ensuring that students receive a comprehensive education in the arts. The teacher will also instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified by state law and the administrative regulations of the school district. The role involves demonstrating techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using both standard and teacher-prepared instructional aids. The teacher will develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time. Individual and small group instruction will be provided to adapt the curriculum to meet the diverse needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities. Additionally, the teacher will establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to ensure an orderly and productive studio environment, while also performing necessary non-teaching duties essential to the day-to-day operation of the school.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and 3-dimensional art following the course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Provides instruction by which pupils develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgements about art.
  • Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting and modeling, using standard and teacher-prepared instructional aids.
  • Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
  • Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive studio environment.
  • Performs necessary non-teaching duties essential to the day-to-day operation of the school.

Requirements

  • Must hold or be in the process of obtaining a Maine certification with endorsement 620 and an approved CHRC at time of hire.
  • Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
