About the position

The Art Teacher position at Pershing for the 2024-2025 school year is designed to provide students with an alternative form of communication and expression through art education. The role involves working closely with classroom teachers to create connections between core subjects and visual arts, thereby enhancing students' knowledge across various disciplines. The teacher will be responsible for implementing instructional methods that apply contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology, utilizing a range of instructional materials to foster an engaging learning environment. In this role, the Art Teacher will create a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to individualized learning and creativity. They will facilitate and assess student growth in areas such as visual arts history, aesthetics, production, and art criticism. Collaboration with classroom/core teachers is essential, as the Art Teacher will support them through cross-curricular lessons and provide assistance for students with special needs. This may involve sharing successful strategies from the art classroom or working together to build curricular connections. Additionally, the Art Teacher will supervise cafeteria activities and assist students in transitioning to their designated classrooms. The position requires regular attendance and punctuality, as well as the ability to telework when requested by the district. Overall, the Art Teacher plays a vital role in enriching the educational experience of students through the integration of art into their learning journey.

Responsibilities

  • Attend work in a regular, reliable and punctual manner.
  • Telework when requested by the District.
  • Implement instructional methods applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology.
  • Create an appropriate classroom atmosphere conducive to individualized learning and creativity.
  • Facilitate and assess student growth in visual arts history, aesthetics, production, and art criticism.
  • Support classroom/core teachers through cross-curricular lessons.
  • Provide support to classroom/core teachers by collaborating to help students with special needs.
  • Supervise cafeteria activities and help students get to the designated classrooms.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Visual Art Education K-12 (or related field) and a valid Missouri Teaching Certificate.
  • Preferred: A Master's Degree.
  • Previous teaching experience.
