About the position

The Art Teacher at Safe Harbor School (SHS) is responsible for providing educational instruction to students in grades 6-12 who are receiving treatment at Nexus-Indian Oaks. The role involves implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) through various teaching techniques and behavior management strategies, ensuring a supportive learning environment tailored to the unique needs of each student. The teacher will work collaboratively with other staff members to assess educational needs, provide crisis intervention, and maintain compliance with confidentiality and licensing guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assess educational needs and progress of assigned students in cooperation with the school team.
• Provide instruction in assigned classes of expertise.
• Implement crisis intervention and apply approved de-escalation techniques as needed.
• Create a positive and supportive classroom climate for learning and treatment.
• Ensure compliance with confidentiality regarding students as per licensing agencies and company policy.
• Develop or assist in developing IEPs and coordinate meetings with the IEP team.
• Attend faculty/staff meetings and participate in training sessions as required.

Requirements

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in an educational discipline.
• Professional Educator License (PEL) is required.
• Valid driver's license required.

Nice-to-haves

• 2 years previous teaching experience.
• Professional Educator License with Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS I) endorsement.
