About the position

The Art Teacher for Visual Arts at Boys & Girls Clubs Of The Valley is responsible for providing engaging and educational art instruction to K-8th grade students. This part-time position involves teaching two elective classes and four special classes, while also offering logistical support for six on-campus performances throughout the year. The instructor must be well-versed in the MAA Discipline procedures and the Arts Department Expectations and Behavior Agreement, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment for all students. In this role, the teacher will maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing approved school-wide classroom management techniques. This includes utilizing the Discipline Referral Flow Chart for documenting and addressing behavior issues, implementing a Positive School Climate, and adhering to the Arts Class Expectations and Behavior Agreement. The teacher will also participate in the department's uniform system of classroom rewards, such as Star of the Day and All Star Class Award, and will communicate any classroom management concerns with the Principal or Assistant Principal. Planning for instruction is a key responsibility, requiring the teacher to design a program based on the Arizona Arts Standards and the specific needs of students. This includes preparing and implementing lesson plans, contributing to the design of discipline-specific curricula, and submitting weekly lesson plans. The teacher will communicate subject matter knowledge effectively, using appropriate language and technology to engage students from diverse cultural perspectives. Assessment of student progress is essential, with the teacher providing feedback to students and parents, and ensuring that students are aware of and following REACH values. Professional development is also a critical aspect of this position, as the teacher is expected to continue their growth through educational in-service, workshops, and conferences. Other responsibilities may include lunch and recess duty, planning and attending evening performances, and maintaining department equipment and materials. The teacher must maintain regular attendance and hold a current Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance with IVP number.

Responsibilities

  • Provide two elective classes and four special classes for K-8th grade students.
  • Support on-campus performances, including six performances annually.
  • Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning using approved management techniques.
  • Document and process behavior issues using the Discipline Referral Flow Chart.
  • Implement a Positive School Climate in classroom discipline.
  • Participate in the department's uniform system of classroom rewards.
  • Discuss classroom management concerns with the Principal or Assistant Principal.
  • Follow approved schedules and procedures for class transitions.
  • Understand and implement fire drill and lock down procedures.
  • Design a program based on Arizona Arts Standards and student needs.
  • Prepare and implement lesson plans based on assessed needs and curriculum.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of discipline-specific curricula and assessments.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans by Monday.
  • Prepare the classroom for students prior to class.
  • Communicate subject matter knowledge in a comprehensible manner.
  • Demonstrate breadth of subject matter knowledge from various cultural perspectives.
  • Use appropriate assessment instruments to assess student progress.
  • Provide varied instructional techniques to meet educational needs.
  • Protect students, materials, and facilities during instruction.
  • Assist in upholding school rules and administrative regulations.
  • Select equipment and instructional materials as needed.
  • Utilize volunteers and community partners to enhance instruction.
  • Coordinate with other staff to maximize student learning.
  • Evaluate student progress regularly and provide feedback.
  • Establish cooperative relations with other employees.
  • Submit progress reports and final grades in a timely manner.
  • Inform parents of students at risk of failure.
  • Check school email and mailbox regularly.
  • Utilize approved methods for out-of-classroom referrals.
  • Continue professional growth through educational in-service and training.
  • Perform other responsibilities as directed, including lunch and recess duty.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, OR Bachelor's Degree in subject area, OR sufficient college/university coursework or job experience to be an expert in the program area, OR Arizona certification to teach in the subject area.
