About the position

The Teacher at Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC) Schools plays a crucial role in fostering a safe and nurturing learning environment for underserved students in North-East Los Angeles and the North-East San Fernando Valley. This position is dedicated to promoting high school graduation rates and preparing students for college through effective teaching practices, collaboration with families, and adherence to California state standards.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a safe and nurturing learning environment
  • Build professional knowledge
  • Organize classroom systems/procedures and manage student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning
  • Develop and maintain IATs (lesson plans)
  • Establish an environment where students are excited about learning and preparing for college
  • Develop lesson plans according to the California state standards
  • Prepare lesson plans for substitute teachers
  • Build strong relationships with students and parents
  • Communicate with parents/guardians on a weekly basis
  • Identify the student's areas for improvement and work with the student, family, and internal resources to suggest options for improvement
  • Provide continual assessment of student progress, maintain student records and portfolios, and complete assigned paperwork in provided time frames
  • Conduct both student and teacher-lead parent conferences
  • Collaborate with the Inclusion Specialist to meet the needs of all students
  • Attend and participate in Academic Success Team, Parent/Teacher Advisory Council, and other school-based meetings and activities
  • Perform disseminated leadership duties
  • Attend and implement professional development training throughout and beyond the school year
  • Demonstrate support and knowledge of the school's goals and mission
  • Detail-oriented when tracking students' grades, attendance, etc.
  • Work with the Principal and Assistant Principal to ensure teaching methods are directed towards meeting and surpassing the standards
  • Attend and participate in school-based meetings and activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Preliminary or Clear Single Subject or Multiple Subject Credential OR University Internship Credential eligible (Intern eligibility letter required) OR Qualification for a permit if the applicant does not possess a credential is required
  • Satisfy Basic Skills Requirement (met through coursework and/or passing scores on standardized tests i.e., CBEST, SAT, ACT, etc.)
  • Solid knowledge of the subject matter, including California State Standards and subject-specific frameworks and assessments
  • Knowledge of diversity in society, including diverse abilities, culture, language, ethnicity, and gender orientation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Able to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data

  • Must be flexible and team-oriented
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong work ethic, accountability, and ownership of work
  • Regular attendance, dependability, and punctuality in conformance with the standards are essential to the successful performance of this position
