About the position

The Art Teacher position at Wayne County Public Schools is designed for a dedicated educator who will teach art to middle school students (grades 6-8) at Brogden Middle School. The role focuses on fostering students' educational and social development through creative expression and skill-building in the arts. The teacher will be responsible for creating a conducive learning environment, planning engaging lessons, and assessing student progress while adhering to state and federal educational guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all rules, policies, and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintain order in the classroom.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and evaluate their performance.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence and participate in the development of the school vision.
  • Attend staff meetings, serve on staff committees, and carry out non-instructional duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education with a valid teaching certificate in North Carolina.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate functional knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Professional software programs.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and accomplish specific tasks as requested.
  • Demonstrate strong content knowledge in art education.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom.
  • Ability to monitor the safety and well-being of students.

Nice-to-haves

  • AP training in art education is strongly encouraged for applicants.
