About the position

The Art Teacher at Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational experiences of middle school students. This position is designed for an individual who is passionate about art education and committed to fostering a creative and engaging learning environment. The Art Teacher will be responsible for delivering a personalized instructional program that aligns with the diverse abilities, needs, and learning characteristics of each student. The role requires the implementation of a prescribed curriculum while employing innovative and creative teaching methods to inspire students and instill a love for the arts. In this position, the Art Teacher will work closely with the school principal and other staff to ensure that all educational practices adhere to district-wide policies and procedures. The teacher will create a child-centered learning environment that emphasizes sound mental health and educational psychology practices. This includes becoming acquainted with each student's unique characteristics and challenges through personal interactions and by reviewing relevant psycho-educational reports. The Art Teacher will also maintain up-to-date lesson plans and schedules, report student progress to parents, and develop strong relationships with students' families to support their educational journey. The Art Teacher will be expected to attend in-service meetings and conferences, collaborate with teacher aides, and perform other professional duties as assigned by the building principal. This role is essential in helping to eliminate academic gaps and ensuring that all students achieve high levels of success in their artistic endeavors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a personalized instructional program compatible with each student's abilities and needs.
  • Implement prescribed curriculum effectively.
  • Create a child-centered learning environment using sound educational psychology practices.
  • Employ creative methods of instruction and utilize a variety of materials.
  • Become acquainted with each child's characteristics, needs, and problems through personal interaction and reports.
  • Inform the building principal of any unsatisfactory student attendance.
  • Supply the building principal with abnormal attendance reports.
  • Report changes in student address and telephone numbers to the principal.
  • Maintain an up-to-date schedule of classroom activities.
  • Keep lesson plans current and accessible.
  • Use designated methods to report student progress to parents.
  • Attend specified in-service meetings and conferences with the principal.
  • Develop close relationships with students' parents or guardians.
  • Utilize teacher aides or helpers according to designated job descriptions.
  • Perform other professional duties as assigned by the building principal.

Requirements

  • Professional Educators License.
  • Endorsement in Art for Grades 6-8.
