About the position

We are accepting applications for the 2024-25 school year at Aspire Golden State College Preparatory Academy in Oakland, CA. Aspire Public Schools operates a network of high-performing, college preparatory charter schools serving TK-12 scholars in communities across California. Founded in 1998—in an effort to transform the inequitable racial, social, and gender outcomes that our communities persist through—Aspire is one of the largest and most forward-thinking open-enrollment public charter school systems in the nation. Our purpose is to prepare our scholars for success in college, career, and life. At Aspire, we set a foundation for our scholars to gain knowledge, skills, and power to access and make choices for their families and post-secondary lives. Every day, our community of students, families, teachers and staff comes together to learn, work, and play in an environment grounded in our values of Bienestar (Well-Being), Culture of Belonging, Community Partnership, Agency & Self-Determination, and Joy. The Art Teacher provides a high quality, personalized education program in general children's art. The role involves establishing a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every student will attend college. The Art Teacher will develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with California State Standards and Aspire Instructional Guidelines. Regular assessment of students is essential, along with analyzing student results to refine and differentiate classroom instruction based on assessment data and student needs. Collaboration with colleagues to improve instructional practices throughout the school and sharing best practices is also a key responsibility. Communication with students and their families about classroom activities and student progress is vital, as is involving parents and guardians as partners in their students' education. The Art Teacher will manage student behavior to ensure every student is fully engaged and will actively participate in professional development activities, working closely with lead teachers, principal, and instructional coaches. Maintaining accurate student records, including attendance, is required, as well as identifying unique student needs and collaborating with team members to effectively address those needs.
