About the position

The School City of Hammond is seeking a dedicated and passionate Art Teacher to join our vibrant educational community. This full-time position is based in Hammond, IN, where the district serves approximately 12,200 culturally diverse scholars across various educational levels, including elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as an Area Career Center. The Art Teacher will play a crucial role in fostering creativity and artistic expression among students, while also contributing to a rich and challenging learning environment that encourages academic excellence and personal growth. As an Art Teacher, you will be responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating instructional activities tailored to meet the developmental goals of your students. You will develop a curriculum that not only aligns with educational standards but also inspires students to explore their artistic talents. The role requires maintaining a positive classroom environment that adheres to established codes of conduct, ensuring that all students feel safe and respected. In addition to teaching, you will advise students on community internships and work experiences, helping them to connect their artistic skills with real-world applications. You will utilize rubric-based authentic assessment methods to evaluate student progress and adapt individual programs to meet diverse learning needs. Communication is key in this role; you will regularly engage with families, co-workers, and supervisors to discuss student progress and collaborate on improving instructional programs. Responsibilities

  • Develop curriculum to meet developmental goals and instructional activities.
  • Post syllabus, projects/lessons, and grades to the server accessible to students, parents, and the community.
  • Maintain a classroom environment consistent with established codes of conduct and conducive to positive learning.
  • Use rubric-based authentic assessment methods to evaluate student progress and adapt individual programs to meet student needs.
  • Exercise open and respectful communication with families, co-workers, supervisors, and other school staff.
  • Measure progress and accomplishments of students towards their academic achievements on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Communicate electronically with students, parents, and other staff members concerning student academic progress, attendance, and behavior.
  • Attend conferences and workshops in order to further advance professional development.
  • Work cooperatively with other personnel to improve instructional programs and the overall operation of the school.
  • Provide a safe, thriving, and respectful environment for all students in the classroom and on the school campus.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Must hold valid Indiana State Teacher's License or be eligible for a license for corresponding age/grade level.
  • 2 years of teaching experience.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships effectively and professionally with families and students.
  • Experience developing and implementing curriculum.
  • Physical ability to handle frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and moving throughout the room.
  • Proven ability to maintain a safe and studious classroom environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum.
