About the position

The Teacher position at Richmond County Schools is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience for students under the guidance of the school principal and designated staff. The role involves planning and delivering appropriate educational experiences that cater to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students, ensuring that every student achieves success. The teacher is responsible for creating a conducive classroom environment that fosters student engagement and achievement of learning objectives. This includes supervising students in various school settings, monitoring and evaluating student outcomes, and maintaining effective communication with students, parents, staff, and the community. In this role, the teacher will develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the diverse needs of all students, including those with disabilities. The teacher is expected to maintain accurate records, follow required procedures, and ensure the appropriate use and care of educational equipment and facilities. The position requires a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment and implementing policies and rules governing student conduct. The teacher will also be involved in assessing student needs, contributing to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, and ensuring that all students receive the necessary support to succeed. The teacher will be expected to engage in continuous professional development, attend school meetings and activities outside of regular instructional hours, and collaborate with colleagues and administration to enhance the educational experience for all students. Responsibilities

  • Plans a program of study that meets the needs, interests and abilities of individuals to ensure Success for Every Student
  • Reports to work on time and is prepared for all classes and duty assignments
  • Creates a classroom environment that provides student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives
  • Provides an instructional program to meet the needs of all students including students with disabilities
  • Prepares lesson plans and other documentation as required by principal or his/her designee
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students
  • Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, requirements of RCSS curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development
  • Plans for and utilizes instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives
  • Assesses the learning and behavioral needs of students on a regular basis and provides input as needed to IEP's of Students with Disabilities
  • Takes all necessary and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and per RCSS policy and administrative regulation
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  • Establishes relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers
  • May evaluate paraprofessional's job performance with department heads and/or administrators
  • Maintains fair and accurate grading policies and procedures, attendance, email and web pages as required through the technology system provided by the RCSS
  • Carries out other duties as assigned by the supervisor or required by law and policy.

Requirements

  • Holder of a Bachelor's degree or beyond
  • Must have a valid Georgia teaching certificate in the teaching field in which they are employed from an accredited college or university
  • Meets Georgia state certification requirements in appropriate field of education
  • Knowledge of RCSS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, RCSS policies, and effective instructional practices
  • Understanding of the teaching/learning process
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education
  • Ability to infuse technology into curriculum
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, and school based staff, students, parents and community
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills
