About the position

The two Bronx Charter Schools for Better Learning (BBL) are committed to fostering a rich and dynamic educational environment that prioritizes teaching as a means to enhance learning. At BBL, we believe that academic excellence is achieved through inquiry-based learning and increased student autonomy, all within a framework that values the continuous growth of each individual. We are seeking an Art Teacher who will embody these principles and contribute to our mission of nurturing students' innate brilliance. As an Art Teacher, you will be responsible for creating engaging lessons that challenge students to master complex learning tasks while leveraging their interests and strengths. You will cultivate deep content-area knowledge and demonstrate a passion for learning, which will inspire your students. Professional development is a key component of our educational philosophy, and you will be expected to engage in training, collaborative planning with colleagues, and reflective practices regarding your teaching methods. You will also play a vital role in fostering an inclusive environment by participating in discussions around identity, race, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Building meaningful relationships with students, families, and the broader school community is essential, as is your ability to create a sense of belonging for all students through responsive classroom management strategies and a growth mindset approach to learning. Additionally, you will be involved in school community events, provide academic support as mandated by Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and ensure that appropriate accommodations are made for students during assessments. Your role will also include tracking progress towards annual IEP goals, attending IEP meetings, and compiling necessary documentation for these meetings.
