About the position

Ashley River Classical Academy (ARCA) is seeking a dedicated Art Teacher to join its founding faculty in Charleston, SC, as the school prepares to open in August 2025. This full-time position involves teaching art to students in grades K-5 at a tuition-free, public, classical charter school. The Art Teacher will play a crucial role in implementing ARCA's mission of fostering virtuous living and civic responsibility through a classical, content-rich curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Planning and teaching content-rich, engaging lessons primarily using direct instruction and Socratic discussion techniques.
• Communicating frequently and consistently with parents about students' behavioral and academic progress as well as classroom events.
• Continuously improving instruction and content knowledge through coaching, professional development, and independent study.
• Fostering a sense of joy and wonder in the classroom and beyond.
• Maintaining high expectations for both academics and behavior through a commitment to schoolwide policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or above in Art Education or a related area of study from a fully accredited college or university.
• Possession of, or eligibility for, a South Carolina Teaching certificate.
• Familiarity with best practices in pedagogy, particularly in literacy instruction.
• Knowledge of the classical model of education.
• High moral character and a love of learning.
