About the position

UMFS' Charterhouse School is dedicated to providing a nurturing and effective educational environment for Virginia's children with special needs. As an Art Teacher, you will play a crucial role in helping students aged 6 to 22, who may have autism, emotional, learning, developmental, and intellectual disabilities, to express themselves creatively and develop their artistic skills. In this position, you will be responsible for delivering quality art education to students with emotional and behavioral challenges. This includes teaching assigned subjects, managing student records, and maintaining classroom discipline. You will implement an instructional program tailored to meet the diverse needs of students with Emotional Disturbance (ED), Learning Disabilities (LD), Intellectual Disabilities (ID), or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Your role will be pivotal in fostering a supportive learning environment that encourages creativity and self-expression among students. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Art.
  • Two years of experience teaching art preferred.
  • Ability to manage classroom behavior effectively.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
