About the position

The Art Teacher position at Drexel Elementary School involves developing and implementing a curriculum program that aligns with the educational goals and objectives of the District. Under general supervision, the teacher will be responsible for creating a safe and respectful classroom environment that promotes the emotional and physical well-being of students. This role requires the teacher to observe and monitor student behavior across various settings, including the classroom, playground, and during field trips. The teacher will assess student needs and develop, implement, and evaluate daily lesson plans tailored to meet the diverse needs of each child. In addition to planning and organizing classroom materials and activities, the Art Teacher will utilize effective classroom management techniques to maintain order and ensure a productive learning environment. The teacher will employ positive reinforcement strategies to encourage desired behaviors and educational outcomes. Instruction will be planned to achieve specific objectives based on student needs and established curriculum standards. The teacher will also evaluate student progress through written assignments and tests, providing feedback to both students and parents regarding their performance and methods of evaluation. Collaboration with other educators and specialists is essential to support students with varying needs. The Art Teacher may also oversee the activities of teacher assistants and volunteers, manage classroom supplies, and perform other duties as assigned. This position is critical in fostering a love for art and creativity among students while ensuring they meet educational standards and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and monitor student behavior in various settings including classroom, playground, and field trips.
  • Establish and maintain a classroom atmosphere that ensures emotional and physical safety of students.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate daily lesson plans tailored to student needs.
  • Plan, organize, and display classroom materials and activities appropriate to the curriculum.
  • Utilize classroom management techniques to maintain organization and a productive learning environment.
  • Implement instructional techniques to encourage and motivate students.
  • Evaluate written materials and analyze student progress and course curriculum.
  • Inform parents of student progress and instructional methods to assist their children.
  • Collaborate with specialists to assist students with special needs.
  • Order classroom supplies and instructional materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid Arizona Elementary 1-8 Teaching Certificate.
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal activities standards.
  • Understanding of developmental levels of school-age children.
  • Familiarity with District and Department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of various teaching techniques and methods.
  • Skill in effective written and oral communication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in teaching art or related subjects.
  • Familiarity with classroom management software.
  • Ability to integrate technology into the curriculum.
