About the position

The Art Teacher at Windham High School is responsible for instructing students in the specific area of art, helping them learn subject matter and skills that will broaden their learning experiences and contribute to their overall development. The position requires the teacher to meet high expectations and communicate effectively with parents, creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. The teacher will participate in professional learning opportunities to enhance their instructional practices. Essential functions of the role include adhering to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility, ensuring the safety of students, and implementing the policies and regulations set forth by the Windham Board of Education. The Art Teacher will manage classroom behavior to maintain a positive learning environment, prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, and maintain accurate records as required. The teacher will also assess student learning on a continual basis, identify areas for intervention, and maintain ongoing communication with parents regarding student progress. Additionally, the teacher will design instruction to meet the needs of all students, maintain a positive school community image, and participate in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the instructional program as defined by the Windham Board of Education.
  • Maintain respect for confidential information.
  • Keep parents updated on student progress through reports and conferences.
  • Design instruction to meet the needs of all students in individual and small group settings.
  • Design clear and specific learning assessments.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication.
  • Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior.
  • Assist in the selection of textbooks and educational materials.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships.

Requirements

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
  • Active subject matter certificate as required by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
  • Appropriate CT Endorsement to teach Specials (Art/Music/PE/Tech).
  • Experience working with a diverse student demographic.
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent or Windham Board of Education.
