About the position

The Cyber Innovation, Analytics & Operations Department within the Communications, Information and Navigation Office (CINO) at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is seeking talented and experienced Data Scientists to provide state-of-the-art solutions to its customers. In this role, you will engage in research, development, and delivery of algorithmic, machine learning, and artificial intelligence-based approaches to tackle complex problems posed by sponsors. This position requires a strong foundation in machine learning systems, models, and schemes, as well as the ability to visualize data for deeper insights and generate technical research reports and briefings. As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for designing and developing machine learning systems tailored to specific sponsor domains, transforming and applying cutting-edge machine learning prototypes, and performing statistical analysis to support pattern of life and anomaly detection. You will also be tasked with building high-quality software prototypes that integrate with various research and pre-production software environments. The selected candidates will work closely with other ARL staff and sponsors, primarily in a classified environment located in Annapolis Junction, MD, State College, PA, or Reston, VA. Periodic travel to sponsor sites may be required. This position can be filled at multiple levels, depending on your education and experience. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Science discipline is required, with a Master's degree preferred. Higher-level positions will involve additional responsibilities, including supervising lower-level staff and leading specific tasks within project scopes. Candidates must possess experience in data science and algorithm development, as well as proficiency in machine learning languages such as Python. Experience with training and optimizing ML algorithms on GPU hardware architectures, particularly NVIDIA-based systems, is preferred, along with familiarity with data science tools like Pandas, PyTorch/TensorFlow, and SQL. An active TS/SCI Clearance is also required for this position.
