About the position

The Arts and Culture Resources Developer is a pivotal role within the Arts and Culture Department, responsible for spearheading the development and fundraising initiatives across various sources. This includes managing fundraising efforts for key venues such as the Mesa Arts Center, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the i.d.e.a. Museum, and the Arizona Museum of Natural History. The position entails extensive research and the development of grants aimed at supporting diverse programs within the department. The developer will be tasked with identifying and cultivating funding sources, implementing a wide array of fundraising programs, and overseeing donor cultivation and stewardship events. In this role, the developer will work closely with the Deputy Director for Development, serving as a liaison to various fundraising committees associated with the venue foundations. Responsibilities also encompass coordinating fundraising programming for organizations, fostering relationships with donors, and planning initiatives that align with the department's mission and vision. Collaboration with other managers on fundraising initiatives is essential, as is participation in internal meetings that reflect the values of the City of Mesa and the Arts and Culture Department. The position may also involve supervising office and clerical staff, ensuring that all fundraising efforts are effectively managed and executed. The Arts and Culture Resources Developer will be expected to work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays, to accommodate the needs of fundraising events and donor engagements. This position is classified as FLSA exempt-professional, indicating a level of responsibility and autonomy in the execution of duties.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the development and fundraising across multiple sources for the Arts and Culture Department.
  • Research and develop grants for programs within the department.
  • Develop funding sources and implement a variety of fundraising programs including corporate, foundation, state, and federal government grant applications.
  • Cultivate and steward donor relationships through events and initiatives.
  • Supervise assigned volunteers and coordinate development efforts for exhibitions and programming.
  • Serve as a liaison to various Fundraising Committees through venue Foundations as directed by the Deputy Director for Development.
  • Plan and coordinate donor initiatives that complement the department's mission and vision.
  • Collaborate with other managers on fundraising initiatives for the department and other venues as needed.
  • Participate in internal meetings with a positive attitude that aligns with the City of Mesa and Arts and Culture Department values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts Administration, Business Administration, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Philanthropy, Art Education, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, or a related field.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in development, philanthropy, and/or fundraising.
  • Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License within 30 days of hire or promotion date.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Arts Administration, Business Administration, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Philanthropy, Art Education, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, or a related field.
  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) Certification.
  • Museum experience.
